The #1 Ranking by *Golfweek Magazine* Is Cougar Canyon's Fifth National Award
The last several months for Cougar Canyon have been dizzying to say the least. With this week's announcement of Golfweek Magazine's "Best Courses You Can Play", Cougar Canyon, which is located in Trinidad, Colorado, has received its fourth national award in the last six months and its sixth award overall since opening just eighteen months ago.
Cougar Canyon's first national recognition came from GOLF Magazine in January of 2008 with a spot in its "Top Ten Courses You Can Play in the U.S." awards in 2007. The announcement surprised everyone; at the time, the course had only been open for five months. However, the award proved to be a harbinger of things to come. A couple months later, Colorado Avid Golfer Magazine recognized Cougar Canyon as the "Best New Course in Colorado".
Following Cougar Canyon's inaugural summer season last year, Golfweek Magazine awarded the Links its "#5 Best New Course" for 2007-2008 in late October. A week prior to the Golfweek award, LINKS Magazine honored Cougar Canyon as the winner in the category of "Best for Resort Lifestyle" in the magazine's well-read "America's Premier Properties" Guide for 2008-2009. Finally, just before Christmas, Golf Digest Magazine recognized Cougar Canyon as the "#3 Best New Public Course in the U.S." in 2008, an award that punctuated the end of the year with an exclamation point for the southern Colorado course.
With the Golf Digest pronouncement, the Nicklaus family openly took note of Cougar Canyon's accomplishments. "On behalf of Nicklaus Design, we would like to congratulate Cougar Canyon Golf Links,” said Jack Nicklaus II, President of Nicklaus Design. “We're proud of what Cougar Canyon has accomplished and the much-deserved recognition it is receiving from the various golf publications."
While a majority of the prior awards honored Cougar Canyon as a great new course, the latest Golfweek praise establishes Cougar Canyon as an annual golf destination. "With the opening of Cougar Canyon Resort and Spa this summer, we will have a great retreat for the whole family as well as the avid golfer," said Scott Candland, Cougar Canyon's Managing Director. The course beat out longtime Colorado favorites to win top honors.
Once golfers and their entourages arrive at Cougar Canyon, they will be treated to a boutique, 117-suite hotel; full-service spa, equestrian center, and budding community vineyards to compliment the world-class golf experience. Nestled amongst these amenities will be 1,700 homes and home sites which are perfect for anyone looking for a second home with a reasonable price tag. Golf course home sites start in the low $100s while semi-custom homes start in the high $200s.
